MEET
THE BUILDER
When shopping for a home most people forget to ask "who developed the community?" Unfortunately, the answer to that question is almost always the same. The builder and the developer are two different companies with two different goals in mind resulting in a neighborhood that just doesn't look or feel right. Gandy Communities is different. The vision for our communities is a shared one from the beginning. From the intial phase, Gandy creates a concept in which their homes are built. Many of the communities that Phil and Quinton Gandy build are exclusive to their own product. This showcases a design and plan throughout relative to their intergrity as people, a perfect match that feels as good as it looks.
Gandy Communities Finding Their Future In Their Past
The story of a family company.
From a hard-working family with six children, Phil and Quinton had been raised on principles of fairness, mutual respect and personal responsibility. It made sense that adhering to these values would lead to success. Starting with a small Auto Dealership in 1985, the Gandys went from selling 50 cars a month to 500 in twelve short years. They built a company of 250 employees, and when offered the chance to sell the dealership in 1997 the brothers agreed it was time to move on to new challenges. Though they had spent over a decade in the auto dealership business, their family’s roots were in construction, where their father and grandfather had spent their lives. Quinton, in fact, had his general contractor’s license and was ready to put it to use. Never ones to sit on the sidelines, they surveyed the landscape for where to channel their energy and talents. The answer, it turned out, was all around them.
Phil and Quinton Gandy grew up in a traditional neighborhood where people knew each other by name, where tall trees lined the sidewalks, where a walk to the store was a near-daily routine, and where all enjoyed a sense of security. The brothers felt passionately about the virtues of this way of life and wanted others to know the experience of such secure, peaceful surroundings. They believed people should be able to raise their families this way. And so with true conviction, they decided to devote themselves and their resources to creating the area’s best imaginable neighborhoods.
It didn’t take long for the Gandys to find a place to focus their energies. Just off Hwy. 21 in Cornelius, they began creating Oakhurst and redefining neighborhood development. True to their vision, Oakhurst integrated sidewalks, streetlamps, open parks, tree-lined streets and a town square in its master plan. The neighborhood encompasses 162 acres and approximately 670 homes, which include condominiums, townhomes and single family houses. The town square offers every day conveniences like a local coffee shop, hair salon and dry cleaner, all within walking distance for residents. Many a summer evening is spent on the Village Green listening to outdoor concerts, or relaxing in the swimming pool across the way. Mixing residential and commercial properties has created a self-contained community where residents could live and work with a feeling of belonging.
The Gandys located their own headquarters here, as it remains a testament to their personal investment in the communities they create. Still unsurpassed, the award-winning Oakhurst is clearly acknowledged as north Mecklenburg’s premier traditional neighborhood.
The Gandys build what they promise to build, and the results speak for themselves, conveying a neighborly sense of warmth, security, ease and comfort, as if the communities have existed for generations. All who contribute to their creation share a deep sense of pride in providing excellent environments for generations to come.
